Unlimited Blade Works Movie Comparison

This isn’t really a review of the movie but more or less a comparison of the visual novel game to the recently released movie as well as a little bit of insight of what I think about the movie. This post is filled to the brim with spoilers so if you haven’t seen the movie yet and do not wish to spoil the story please do not read any further. ^.^

I’ll start off by saying that I like how the studio stayed true to the visual novel, although the scenes may not be exactly the same you can still see they draw their inspiration from the game’s scenes. I have a itching feeling that I may have missed a few but majority of the main ones are there which is good enough for me.

They thankfully skipped all the pleasentries at the beginning rather than drag on for 30 mins introducing characters and such. Assuming that they aimed the movie at people who are familar with the Fate/Stay Night series we can jump straight to the action packed scenes. For those who aren’t familar it is best you read up on the different routes here or watch the Fate/Stay Night anime series.

I’m pretty sure cheating is frowned upon in the Holy Grail war.

Why are they mirroring the original scenes? >.>

Saucy Saber is saucy…

I know Archer was being a jerk and all even in the anime series but he does have his moments of bad assery. I mean can you really blame him for wanting to erase himself after all he went through?

I have to admit some of the scenes they recreated in the movie are just too fantastic for words as they are just more visually appealing than the original.

They even did the less noticable scenes…  O.O

Pfft strongest hero my ass…a little kiting and down you go :P

Poor Ilya, hmm Gilgamesh went all chaotic evil this route, he just a smug prick in the anime series. Now that I think about it, Shiro and Rin were watching Ilya knowing her Berserk was getting his ass kicked, why didn’t they intervene BEFORE her heart was riped out. Bad timing Shiro tsk tsk :P

Rin: Freeze bitch or I’ll shoot

Breaking the sound barrier…he really doesn’t like Archer much does he?

Another one of my favourite scenes, beautifully recreated in the movie. I had no idea what Rho Aias was until I read up on it last night  here.

I still don’t get why they keep mirroring some scenes. Speaking of Saber, she didn’t really get much airtime in the movie now she was more of a supporting character.

It has been a good year or so since I’ve played the visual novel, but sometimes I forget how much of a bad ass Shiro really is. I mean come on, what master’s can go one on one with servants…even if his morals are slightly distorted.

Hmm Archer’s sword was changed…and Saber is in absolute shock at how capable Shiro is, if only he was as useful as he is now in the anime series. Shiro vs Saber who would you think would win?

Shiro: Your in my world now bitch, prepare for a world of hurt!

Seriously Rin, after almost being impaled in the head, general trickery, attempted rape and just being a constant prick (in all routes) why wold you still want to save him?

Another epic scene recreated, I can’t decide which one I like more the original or the movie. I know Gilgamesh was just being overconfident but he really should have popped on his armour and pulled out his sword Ea. Owned much?

Into the void you go…

Peeka-a-boo

Headshot! Bet you didn;t see that one coming did you?

Same scene in the anime where Saber and Shiro except it’s Archer and Rin’s turn this time.

Arhcer just looks silly when he smiles…

Hmm although I would have gladly like to see the ‘good’ ending where Saber stays I felt that the ‘true’ ending was more suitable.

I myself am shock at how well their production quality of the key scenes and entire movie in general came out. I mean they really delivered the eye candy for my expectations atleast. The movie tself is so action packed I’d glady rewatch it as much of the story and character development is at a nice balance where it just doesn’t get boring to the point where you just want to turn it off. With all that said, I really hope they are planning for a Heaven’s Feel movie or series just to finish it of nicely (ironically it doesn’t cause its has more of a tragic story).
